Every great garden needs a great team. Meet the heroes, mentors, sidekicks and community leaders behind the Urban Food Dude universe.
“The Heart of the Urban Food Dude Universe.”
Urban Food Dude is a warm, relatable, and inspiring guide who helps kids, families, and communities rediscover where food comes from and why it matters. He is a city-grown problem solver who believes that healthy food should be accessible, understandable, and exciting for everyone, no matter where they live. He isn't flashy or loud. His power comes from knowledge, patience, and optimism. Urban Food Dude shows that small actions like planting a seed, watering a plant, and sharing food can create big change.
He grew up in the city and understands the challenges of limited access to fresh food. Rather than complain about the problem, he chose to become part of the solution by learning how to grow food in small spaces and sharing that knowledge with others.
“Processing... garden data looks delicious.”
Bot is Urban Food Dude's loyal robot companion and information expert who helps kids understand how food, plants, and farming work. Built to assist with learning and discovery, Bot can instantly access facts about plants, soil, nutrition, weather, and food systems, but he's still learning how humans and gardens grow together. Bot combines intelligence with curiosity, making him both a teacher and a student alongside the kids.
Bot is a floating, friendly robot assistant who joins Urban Food Dude on every adventure. He scans plants, analyzes soil, tracks weather, and explains science in ways kids can understand. But even though Bot knows a lot, he's still discovering the fun and emotional side of growing food, which makes him relatable and funny. Sometimes Bot is overly technical, and Urban Food Dude helps translate his science talk into kid-friendly language.
“The Future Entrepreneur Learning to Grow.”

While she understands marketing and business ideas, she realizes she doesn't know much about growing food, so she turns to Urban Food Dude for help. KT represents young people who want to make a difference but are still learning how things work. Through her journey, kids learn alongside her about gardening, agriculture, and how food connects to community and opportunity.
KT is studying business in college and dreams of starting ventures that help her neighborhood thrive. When she and her friends decide they want healthier food options on campus and in their community, they try to start a garden but quickly realize they need help. That's when she meets Urban Food Dude and Bot. Urban Food Dude teaches them how to grow food, while KT figures out how gardens can support communities, schools, and even small businesses.
“The Commissioner who changes communities one garden at a time.”
Dr. Elijah Green serves as the State Commissioner of Agriculture and is a respected leader dedicated to strengthening farming communities, expanding access to healthy food, and preparing the next generation to understand agriculture's role in everyday life. Calm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to both rural farmers and urban communities, Dr. Green helps bridge the gap between farms and cities. He believes agriculture is not only about food production but also about economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.
Dr. Green grew up around farming and later became an agricultural scientist and policy leader. As Commissioner, he works to support farmers, improve food distribution systems, and promote agricultural education statewide. He recognizes that many children today are disconnected from agriculture, which is why he becomes an important supporter of Urban Food Dude's mission to teach kids where food comes from.
“Owner, The Fresh Express Mobile Farmers Market.”
Ms. Bloom is the energetic, big-hearted owner and driver of the Fresh Express, a colorful mobile farmers market van that brings fresh fruits and vegetables directly into neighborhoods, schools, and communities that don't always have easy access to healthy food. Known for her bright smile and booming laugh, Ms. Bloom believes everyone deserves access to fresh, affordable produce, no matter where they live. Her mobile market makes healthy food fun, convenient, and exciting for families and kids.
Ms. Bloom grew up helping her grandparents on their farm and later realized many city neighborhoods didn't have access to fresh produce. Determined to fix that, she created the Fresh Express, turning a delivery van into a traveling farmers market on wheels. Now she drives across the city bringing farm-fresh food to schools, apartment communities, and neighborhood centers while teaching kids how to pick, cook, and enjoy healthy foods.
